🍃Memorial Tributes🍃 on Instagram: “Serena McKay, 19, a young First Nations teenager from Canada, was killed on April 22, 2017 in a vicious beating that was posted on Facebook Live. Serena was killed on the Sagkeeng First Nation, which is in the province of Manitoba. Serena was not from Sagkeeng but was going to school there. Police confirmed she was living in the neighboring community of Powerview-Pine Falls.Serena was last seen by a family friend on Saturday evening and was reported missing Sunday around 6 p.m. Two hours later she was found deceased near a home in the First Nation.In the video, which was removed from Facebook, a badly beaten young woman is seen lying on the ground. She is hit over and over again, including on the head, as female voices use expletives. “I don’t want to f*cking see her alive,” one girl says as the sickening thuds from the beating are heard, and you can see Serena’s bloodied and swollen face. The sound of bones cracking can be heard on the video. According to Winnipeg Free Press, “The video, likely taken with a cellphone, shows a person wearing a boot repeatedly kicking at a woman trying to shield her bloodied face with her hand and arm as another person jumps in to pull back the victim’s arm.”…Two girls from Serena’s school, aged 16 and 17, have since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.The principal of Sagkeeng Anicinabe High School, which Serena and the accused attended, said that the video shows what he described as a violent assault on Serena. He said he believes drugs were involved in the attack.”After seeing what I saw on the video, you know what? There’s nobody in their right mind [that] would do something like that, unless they were extremely high on whatever and just totally, like, out of it,” he told CBC News.A friend of Serena said that, “she loved to be around her friends.
